Sally Hansen Insta-Ombre Polish

*Press Sample*

Today I have four of the Sally Hansen Insta-Ombre polishes to share with you! There are eight polishes total in this limited edition collection. Sally Hansen describes these as "high-impact glitter shades, clever and innovative ombre-in-a-bottle makes it easy to achieve the look in just three simple steps. A radiant wash of ombre color at your fingertips." I used these without a base color to show how they look on their own, but I think they'd make great toppers as well!

The instructions for these polishes states to first put one coat on clean dry nails (I used a peel off base coat and it worked just fine), then apply a second coat from mid-nail to the tip, and then apply a coat only to the tips. I tried to do it that way and found it didn't work as well as I wanted it to. For these pictures I actually did the steps in the opposite order: I applied one coat to my nail tips, then one coat from the mid-nail to tip, and finally one coat over the entire nail. Personally, that worked best for me but either way should result in a similar look.

The first shade I have to share is Gold Grade. Sally Hansen describes it as "metallic glitter, from quiet to saturated."

Next is Cobalt Coat which is described as "blue, from barely there to intense."

Grey-diant is "a stunningly sparkled fade from light to black." This one seemed the most sparse to me. The others had more glitter payoff with just a dip of the brush.

The last one I have to show you is Copper Cap. "Beige that grows into a warm copper glow." I just love the color of this glitter.

I like the idea of these polishes. I haven't ever tried to do a gradient with glitter like this and I think it is a pretty effect on the nails. I don't think you necessarily need these specific polishes to create the effect. However if you don't have glitter in your collection like these or love a specific color, these are really nice polishes. The glitter to base ratio is good and the base isn't too thick, even after applying three coats. I used one coat of topcoat on all of the swatches. I think it would be great if they would come out with these polishes in holiday colors. For example, black and orange for Halloween, red, white (or silver) and blue for Independence Day or red and green with silver or gold for the Holidays.

These limited edition polishes are available at a variety of chain drugstores and mass retailers nationwide at a suggested retail price of $5.99. I know I've seen displays of these at my local Walgreens and Target stores. On that same display, there is a Big Peel Off base coat that works great for glitter polishes like these. I bought it and have used it several times. If you're a glitter fan, but don't like the removal process, I would highly recommend it.

Please let me know what you think of these polishes in the comments below! Will you be picking any of them up? I'd love to hear!

These polishes were provided to me by Sally Hansen for review purposes. My opinions are 100% honest and my own. Sending products for review does not affect whether I like something or not.

  2. Sally Hansen really seems to be trying to get in the nail art game. I will pass on these though as I am not keen on mainstream glitters.

    1. I agree, I really like that mainstream polish brands are trying to do some different things. It's great for people that don't have access to indies.

  3. I love that more mainstream brands are upping their game, especially SH. These aren't for me, but I do think there's a good market for them.

  5. I love micro glitters, but I would never wear these in a gradient form. I'd just cover my full nail. haha

    1. I actually had to restart my nails a few times with these because I was putting them on too full coverage. I'm so used to trying to get even coverage that it seemed a bit strange to do the gradient.

  9. I swatched one of these yesterday, but I put it over a base color. I think they look better this way!

    1. I haven't tried them over a base color yet, I was surprised I liked them as much as I did without another color.

    1. I thought so too! I really liked the way they looked with just the glitter on the very tip of the nail. It was really delicate looking.

  12. These are pretty, but you can do that with pretty much any glitter polish. They aren't making big trend waves! :-)

    1. True, it's nothing new but I do like the formula on these a lot. I think some polishes are too thick to get this look without sponging.

  16. Your swatches and review/guidance are great - I just don't don't think I would use these since I prefer to do gradients with any polish. Guess they would be great for nail art novices.

  18. Yours looked fabulous. I just didn't know it was supposed to be so light. I already had a Formula X iridescent color on,so I put the purple over it. It wasn't enough for me,so I used 5 gradient coats (it's ok to laugh!). I think that looks better. I agree with everyone on here, you don't need this specific polish to create the same affect. Thanks so much for sharing! I needed girl input after my husband said, "I only see glitter!" :)
